Welcome to the Aston Rock Society website, a group devoted to the pursuit and appreciation of rock, metal, punk and goth music! In charge this year are Sarah "Splash" Whitmore (president), Marie "Ash" Harris (secretary) Catherine Robinson (treasurer), and Kieran "Gib" Hawkes (Web Monkey), who can be seen at any of the weekly meetings, or you can email me directly from this website.
Meeting days, times and locations are as yet to be decided, but you will either be contacted by e-mail, or better yet, you can sign up to the forums to keep up to date with rocksoc goings on.
Heylo kiddies, no meeting this week I'm afraid, due to most people having excessive amounts of work, limited amounts of money and general other stuff.
However we've got a fun end of term coming up with a few events:
Tues 4th Dec - Aston RockSoc/LMS joint xmas party
Saturday 8th Dec - Splash and Tara's house party (ask them for details)
Monday 10th Dec - Eddies Student Night @ The Newt. Fancy Dress. Cheap booze.
Wed 12th Dec - UCE / Birmingham Uni party at Scruffys which we've been invited to.
Also got a few ideas for next term including another pilgrimage (as Manchester was awesome) and a Guitar Hero night (thanks to Will for suggesting that idea). As always we're open to ideas so let us know if you have one!

Election time again, see forums for details, hope everyone is enjoying revision, stand by for Rocksoc's end of year awesomeness.
Not much happening at the moe, we had the girls night out at anarchy on Friday, which I think everyone enjoyed, next up we have a night at the guild for the superheroes and super villains fancy dress party on Friday night. There's talk of another trip to Sheffield in the works, in conjunction with the Altsoc, more details later.

Few things up and coming, firstly we have the Americana night at Subculture tomorrow, secondly is the opening night of Chaos at the Sanctuary on the 2nd of March, 4 rooms of metal, emo, punk and live music, with everyone's favourite DJ Timmo (among others), entry will be a quid for all Rocksoc members! Make it a good one, its every fortnight, between Anarchy nights at Subway City.

Sorry that the update has been so long coming, moving to Vista cost me a week or so :l
Anarchy is on at Subway City tonight very cheap drinks and a different venue, meeting in Einies at 8.30.
We are looking into a number of different events for the near future, including a film night, paint balling, a girls night out (for the Rocksoc ladies), and most excitingly (for me at least) a Rocksoc guild invasion, like Full throttle last year, but not in the loft, get writing your set lists ;)
I've heard off a few people that some members aren't getting the emails, if this applies to anyone you know, check junk mail boxes and email us at astonrocksociety@googlemail.com so we can add you to the mailing list. As always, any suggestions can go on the forums

Hello hello to 2007, I hope everyone had a good Christmas and new year, you can catch us up on the amusing anecdotes when we all get back to uni, I know I have a few ^_^
With exam season upon us as soon as term starts, there will be no official meeting for awhile yet, we do have a few plans for events in the works, hopefully we can do at least 1 of them if not all of them, they should all be fantastic.

Hey people, sorry that Subside was a bit wank, was worth a try at least, and Alex and Terra managed to get a photo of a certain webcam screenshot with no less than 40 strangers, good work fellas. Now, we shall be heading to Subculture again on Saturday for Alex's birthday, if he hasn't given you an invitation yet, grab one off him in Einies before we go for cheaper entry :). We shall of course also be at the final karaoke of term next Thursday, hope to see you there.

And I'm awake, what a great trip that was hey! =D special mention to girl Alex for actually keeping Ina away from other people, we appreciate it. I myself frequented the main room and room 4 for most of the night, but I'm sure some of you had fun in all 4. RAWR! Last night was great, good turn out from freshers, a few new faces, and a few familiar ones :). Shame about the queue to get in and at the bars :x Remember, we are out again on Tuesday to Eddies, so costumes again please! :D

After upgrading our photo site by a whopping 1gb, we have a torrent of new photos available! They are now being resized to make our storage stretch even further, but the full resolution versions are available from me on request. As always if you have any photos of rocksoc events or members, sent them to me so I can put them on the site! :). Well, its the end of February, which means no more eddies :(. Its does mean however that we are going to visit barfly for the first time next week! :D. We have a fun and fabulous event in the loft of the guild on the 2nd of march people! Full throttle, run by Altsoc and Rocksoc, be there or be a big fat 4 sided m00k.

Not much to report at the moe, we will be going to Eddies this month of a Thursday (I assume). Altsoc have a trip to Leeds organised for the 10th of February, it will cost a tenner for rocksoc members, might be worth a look =). Morning after the night before, well done to anyone who stayed in sub till the end, I got hungry so I left, also Bladder actually graced us with his presence! Well, all I can say is that 100free seem to be having problems at the moe, and I can't upload anything to the site, plus, their user forums link actually takes you to a modelling web site :/. So from 2day we will be hosted on 50webs, they seem to be rather more professional and hopefully we shall have no problems with them :)

Happy New year everyone, we are back after the Christmas break, and ready to rock in 06! Since its currently exam week, I'm sure you are all rather busy (I know I am) so there will be no official meeting this week, of course we hope to see you around campus anyway! Come tell use about your hols if u spot us :).
Details in the events section will need filling again this term, meetings haven't been decided yet, but if you have an event that you would like us to plug for the rocksoc, let me know, be it your bands gig or simply a night down the pub :)

Teehee, ice skating is fun. Well, its the end of the first term, which means no more meetings for ages! I know a lot of you have been seeing bits and pieces of us over the week anyway, what with ice skating and the LMS guys playing down at the flapper (well worth the trip btw, I have photos from the night available on request :p). A lot of the regulars will be down in Einies tomorrow night for the larryoke stars in your eyes night, so come along, its bound to be fun! I think a few people will be at the end of term party too. I hope you all enjoyed Corp on Friday, even though I spent half the night getting lost in the maze of tiny corridors! Alas, I know of no embarrassing antics of the Smigs style this year, but the photos are up and you can judge for yourselves. The Flapper and Firkin is having live music with a discount for rocksoc members on Tuesday, I will be taking any members that would like to go, just let me know. Also, next week brings us our first meeting at Subculture, meeting as usual in Einies at 8pm :)

Ok, how much did we slaughter that free bar? 750 quids worth gone in under an hour, the bands were pretty good too I think, I got 2 of the cds, Blind to and Murdoc, if anyone got the other bands, let me know, I wanna copy :). By the way, were those t-shirts meant to be free or not.... Photos from the night are up, (for SHAME you strange floor sitting strippers, especially you Terra, you don't even drink!) and we've got a few new events up. On the Corp trip front, deposits of £5 must be given to a committee member by the 25th November. I'm working on finding a video host for all the random Rocksoc videos, I'll let you know when its ready.

Did everyone have a good Halloween? I know I did, remember to check out the photos to see what we got up 2 (don't I look lovely ;) ). Now that we are in November, it means a change of meeting place! While we will still be gathering in einies at 8pm, it will now be on a Thursday night, followed by a trip to Edward's Number 8 :). If you haven't already, and would like to go on the Sheffield pilgrimage on the 2nd of December, please email us on astonrocksociety@yahoo.co.uk . On a side note, I for one am quite disappointed with the attendance recently, considering the amount of people who signed up, and came to the first meeting, whether our emails are not getting through, or people just aren't coming I don't know, but if you are aware of our meetings, please do come along, as I'm sure you will have fun :)

Aaah, nearing the end of the first month of uni, and so, this coming Monday will be the last opportunity for you all come visit snobs with the rocksoc for at least a while, as of the first week of November, we will all be visiting Eddies on a Thursday instead! Be sure to keep checking the photos site, there are some up there from the LMS night on Thursday, which I'm sure a lot of you were at. Btw, I believe that this coming Monday is in fact Halloween, so costumes all round!

Well, its underway, the coach trip to corporation in Sheffield is being organised, it should be a great night out with the rocksoc and I strongly suggest that you come along, its cheap and it rocks! Right, so who enjoyed themselves last night then? (raises hand). Glad to see people up there last night, and always good to mingle with the LMS. Hopefully everyone got their membership cards, and eventually got their IDs back (bit worrying that was aye?). The next meeting is tomorrow in einies at 8pm, then on to snobs. One on the main reasons for coming to this meeting will be to have your say on where and when most people would like to hold the meetings, and also if we should rotate the meeting place, i.e., a month at one location, then a month in a different location etc.

Well, last nights visit to eddies was enjoyable for those of us that went i think, even if that was only a few of us (for shaaaaaame!) special mention has to go to Zara who fought the ravages of tonsillitis to see us in einies before going back home to recover for tomorrow's trip! Also, Cai drinking a whole bottle of white wine by himself and Sam buying jagermeister for all and sundry! Tomorrow is the big 1, my personal favourite (view does not reflect that of the whole committee :p), subculture, we know that there is a clash with the LMS meeting in the evening, but since we are both ending up at sub at the end of the night, its not really a problem, if you do go to the LMS meeting (I am myself), simply look out for anyone you know from the rocksoc, or myself, Cat, Hannah or Xander when you get to sub, the rest are sure to be close by :). Everyone remember your 2 passport photos and a form of ID if you wish to get your free 2 year membership.

Hi, me again, the visit to snobs last night went down without a hitch last night, hopefully all of you that came to einies, costers or snobs with us enjoyed yourselves and met some new faces :) As you can probably tell if you did see me in einies last night, i should not be allowed to be a public speaker. Photos for the members page were being taken last night, if you get have 1 taken and would like to be on the members page, you need to send me your name plus any nickname that you go by, what course you are doing and either send me a photo of yourself, or get me to take one next time you see me, again this weeks events are on the events page. By the way, I really do recommend that everyone should download and install the font pack to see this site properly.

Well, after changing from geocities due to crap bandwidth, we were nicely set up on a new web host, until that stopped working, which means that no-one will be able to read this, hopefully it will be sorted out soon. Apart from that, the members page is still looking very bare, and we need some submissions for the FAQ, if you can remember any of the questions that you asked about the rocksoc when you first heard about it, send them over and I'll stick them up (along with answers obviously).
Well, I've done a few bits and pieces, and members details and starting to go up as I receive them, only just realised that embedding fonts is a bitch to do, so if you want to see the site properly, download this font pack. I'm going to start work on the photo site now, before I leave for reading tomorrow, it will be hosted on fotopic, as I think its the best free photo host around and should suite our needs :)

Well, the beta of this website is well underway, this is being written at 1am on a Thursday night, after I have just made the rather spiffy news icon above :) I hope that everyone is liking the new site so far, if not, tell me why and I'll be sure to stamp it with my big rubber "do this!" stamp ;)
